Ultrasonic Range Finder

Here at http://projectforfiveweeks.blogspot.co.uk/  you'll find the blog for our year 2 project titled "Ultrasonic Range Finder", by Yuyang Liu, Sydney Mserembo, Shunyao Wang and Tiancheng Fang supervised by Dr. Saqib Khursheed.

The purpose of this project is to develop a device that accurately measures distance between the user and an object of their choosing using ultrasonic audio waves and to display the results to the user in real time. The project is centered on an Arduino Uno microcontroller and consists of an ultrasonic emitter and receiver a buzzer, 3 LEDs and an LCD screen. The device works by using the travel time of the audio waves from the device and back to calculate the distance.

The device applications include simple range detection or with the aid of software such as Matlab 3D modelling of small interiors. The device is limited by its range (2 to 450cm) and also by the area swept and longer distances; as the distance between the device and the object increases the are swept by it increases making it less precise at longer distances
