Liquid Level Measurement System

Here at http://lvprojectliquidlevelmmt.blogspot.co.uk/, you will find the blog for our year 2 project blog titled "Liquid Level Measurement System", by Xinyue Yuan, Yuhang Zhang, Yu Su and Ali Alshabibi, and supervised by Dr Simon Maher.

Compared to previous examples with capacitors and probes, because of curiosity, we want to construct a new measurement system with reed switches, which are safer and more efficient.

The purpose of this group project is to design and construct a system, which works by using the combination of the reed switches and Arduino microcontroller board, in order to measure the level of the liquid for industrial machinery. It consists of two parts, which are electrical circuit and bucket. Inside the bucket, there is a stick with four magnets. Outside the bucket, there are four reed switches, which measure the liquid level depending on the magnetic field from magnets, and the whole circuit.

When the system starts, depending on the number of switches closed, the liquid level can be recognized by Arduino and showed using the LEDs and LCD display. Here, water is used as the testing liquid. For example, if the water level is 50%, two switches are closed, so two LEDs are switched on and the LCD display shows the information "Capacity: Around 50%". This system can be applied to many large scale industrial, manufacturing areas, such as cars.
