Smart Obstacle Avoidance Helmet

Subject: Smart Obstacle Avoidance Helmet
Inspired by autonomous driving technology, we designed a helmet integrating ToF sensors, STM32 microcontrollers, and a buzzer feedback system. It aims to enhance safety for the visually impaired, cyclists, and construction workers in complex environments by detecting obstacles and providing real-time alerts.
The system uses four ToF sensors to collect distance data from left-front, right-front, direct-front, and front-diagonal downward directions. The STM32 processes this data through logical decision-making, triggering alarms via a buzzer when an obstacle is detected.
Over four weeks, we completed independent 3D modeling, STM32 configuration, PCB development, and multi-ToF sensor synchronization, addressing challenges through optimized wiring, parallel processing, and structured user testing. Future improvements include personalized modeling, voice module integration, Bluetooth connectivity, and AI-based obstacle classification.
